The bear and the hare

The Bear and the Hare
Once an upon a time there lived a bear and a hare, they were best friends. They both lived in the woods. They walked and played just like best friends do. But one day the wind blew cold, the bear stopped and told the hare “The winter has come,” hare knew what winter meant his friend would be asleep till spring and curled up in his cave, he’d miss the joy of Christmas. For Christmas was a special time to spend and there was no fun and no games “Oh bear, why must you go”. The bear looked at hare and gave a gentle smile. The bear said, “I wish I could but when it snows and the wind blows, a bear should be in bed”. Just as he was talking a snowflake fell on his nose. He said to hare “It's time for me to go to bed”. He was sad. He didn't want to miss the Christmas, but what was Christmas like? He said, “Oh Christmas it is a fun celebration. The woods are white, the stars light up. At night Christmas is a time to share, it’s a time to come together. Every creature, Bird and Bear. Bear had stopped to sit and rest. He yawned.“I am sleepy I can't stay awake, I'm sorry hare but can you still see the tree” said the hare. “Ok,” said the bear. “Doesn't Christmas smell delicious because of the decorations made out of fruit”. Slowly the bear turned around and went to his cave but hare had an idea. When it was morning hare was waiting for the bear to come. Hare heard a sound “Is that my friend bear. “It’s bear, it’s bear”, hare shouted. I’m so glad that you are here now. We can spend time together”. Wait what was the special thing that woke up bear? A shiny new alarm clock.

Tivaevae Patterns

This is my Tivaevae Mat. I used two different sheets of paper, scissors, glue and a pencil. I am pleased with my Tivaevae Mat because it shows rotation and reflection. I found this task challenging because I never did this before and I thought I'd never do it correctly but I did. I made my Tivaevae mat by making a square and folding into quarters. Then I drew my patterns and cut them out. I opened up the mat and here is the finished product.

On Friday the 7th of August Room 1 did Tivaevae Patterns. My Patterns were diamonds and flowers.

My Watercare Recount

Hook WOW! an educator from Water Care came to our school.

“YUCK!” I said to myself when Sarah showed black and white images of people who used to do their wees and poos in a chamber pot. She also said that if you were living in a hotel a maid would empty your poo and pee chamber pot. They would empty it into a river. At the time the toilets were expensive.

During the lesson, Sarah divided us up into three groups. There were eight to nine people in a group. She gave us a black board, some powdery stones, a plastic sheet and watering can filled with water. We had to make some mountains and hills using the stones within our group. Then we had to use a plastic sheet to cover the stones and pour water on the plastic sheet. We had to estimate how many rivers would be created. Some groups had 4 to 6 rivers. She taught us things like not to put paint, dishwasher liquid, food waste, engine oil down the drain because it would block the drain.

Afterwards, we went back to class. Sarah talked about how water is treated now. Wastewater travels through pipes under houses and roads. The pipes are wide enough for cars to fit through. Workers access the pipes through manholes on the road. There is a special key that they use to maintain the pipes. The workers have to wear protective clothing to avoid their clothes from getting dirty and for the sake of their health. The actual treatment plant is in Mangere. There is a superbug that is at treatment plant that eats through the raw poos. treatment plant that eats through the raw poos. The superbug breaks down the poos. From there the water is filtered and goes through a room with lots of lights.

I am so glad that Sarah came to our school and I learned not to waste water.

Hunua Falls - Swim and Picnic Waterfall in the Hunua Range

Hunua Waterfalls

It was a bright sunny day, in April 2019 when I went to the Hunua waterfalls with my family. It was a long drive to Hunua from West Auckland. When we arrived at Hunua there was a light drizzle and we thought that it would rain but the rain stopped. There were two ways to go to see the waterfall. The first way was through the bush and the second way was through the pathway. So we decided to go through the pathway because if we went through the bush there might be bugs and insects, so we decided not to go through the bush. When we were going through the pathway we saw so many people. We saw a photo frame in which people could stand inside it. We couldn't take a photo because there were other people taking photos as well. When we reached there it looked really beautiful and we took a few pictures. Some people were eating, some people were having a picnic and some people brought hotdogs. The total height of the Waterfalls were 30metres 98 ft height. The Hunua Falls are on the Wairoa River in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. The land around was bought by Auckland for water supplies between 1940 and 1960. Hunua is a small settlement in the outskirts of south Auckland, New Zealand. The Hunua Statistical area, which covers a much larger area than the settlement, had a population of 4242 people in 2013, an increase of 144 people from the previous one in 2006. The distance between Auckland and Hunua Falls is 38 km.

It was fantastic to see the Hunua falls. It was so fun so we will go again.

Dams information Report

Waitakere Dam Walk | New Zealand Tramper
In Auckland, we are getting not enough rain to fill up
the dams.

A Dam blocks the flow of water in rivers or streams.

It must pass over or through or around the barriers.

Dams are built across rivers, streams or estuaries.

The purpose of dams is to prevent areas from
flooding and to retain water.

Dams are built for electric power.

Water Care operates fourteen supply reservoirs,
five of them are located in the Waitakere Ranges.
Two of them are in Helensville, four of them are
in the Hunua Ranges and one in Papakura.

The dams supply 20% Auckland water.
