This task required me to match the science word with the definition. 

 

Tivaevae Patterns

This is my Tivaevae Mat. I used two different sheets of paper, scissors, glue and a pencil. I am pleased with my Tivaevae Mat because it shows rotation and reflection. I found this task challenging because I never did this before and I thought I'd never do it correctly but I did. I made my Tivaevae mat by making a square and folding into quarters. Then I drew my patterns and cut them out. I opened up the mat and here is the finished product. 

On Friday the 7th of August Room 1 did Tivaevae Patterns.My Patterns were diamonds and flowers.

My Watercare Recount

Hook WOW! an educator from Water Care came to our school.

 “YUCK!” I said to myself when Sarah showed black and white images of people who used to do their wees and poos in a chamber pot. She also said that if you were living in a hotel a maid would empty your poo and pee chamber pot. They would empty it into a river. At the time the toilets were expensive.

 During the lesson, Sarah divided us up into three groups. There were eight to nine people in a group. She gave us a black board, some powdery stones, a plastic sheet and watering can filled with water. We had to make some mountains and hills using the stones within our group. Then we had to use a plastic sheet to cover the stones and pour water on the plastic sheet. We had to estimate how many rivers would be created. Some groups had 4 to 6 rivers. She taught us things like not to put paint, dishwasher liquid, food waste, engine oil down the drain because it would block the drain.

 Afterwards, we went back to class. Sarah talked about how water is treated now. Wastewater travels through pipes under houses and roads. The pipes are wide enough for cars to fit through. Workers access the pipes through manholes on the road. There is a special key that they use to maintain the pipes. The workers have to wear protective clothing to avoid their clothes from getting dirty and for the sake of their health. The actual treatment plant is in Mangere. There is a superbug that is at treatment plant that eats through the raw poos. treatment plant that eats through the raw poos.The superbug breaks down the poos. From there the water is filtered and goes through a room with lots of lights.

 I am so glad that Sarah came to our school and I learned not to waste water.

Clouds in a Jar

This week room 1 did an experiment on clouds in a Jar.

Rain Gauge Experiment

This is my experiment on making a Rain gauge. It didn't work well because there was not much rain in Auckland during this past week.
