Hunua Falls - Swim and Picnic Waterfall in the Hunua Range

Hunua Waterfalls

It was a bright sunny day, in April 2019 when I went to the Hunua waterfalls with my family. It was a long drive to Hunua from West Auckland. When we arrived at Hunua there was a light drizzle and we thought that it would rain but the rain stopped. There were two ways to go to see the waterfall. The first way was through the bush and the second way was through the pathway. So we decided to go through the pathway because if we went through the bush there might be bugs and insects, so we decided not to go through the bush. When we were going through the pathway we saw so many people. We saw a photo frame in which people could stand inside it. We couldn't take a photo because there were other people taking photos as well. When we reached there it looked really beautiful and we took a few pictures. Some people were eating, some people were having a picnic and some people brought hotdogs. The total height of the Waterfalls were 30metres 98 ft height. The Hunua Falls are on the Wairoa River in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. The land around was bought by Auckland for water supplies between 1940 and 1960. Hunua is a small settlement in the outskirts of south Auckland, New Zealand. The Hunua Statistical area, which covers a much larger area than the settlement, had a population of 4242 people in 2013, an increase of 144 people from the previous one in 2006. The distance between Auckland and Hunua Falls is 38 km.

It was fantastic to see the Hunua falls. It was so fun so we will go again.

Dams information Report

Waitakere Dam Walk | New Zealand Tramper
In Auckland, we are getting not enough rain to fill up
the dams.

A Dam blocks the flow of water in rivers or streams.

It must pass over or through or around the barriers.

Dams are built across rivers, streams or estuaries.

The purpose of dams is to prevent areas from
flooding and to retain water.

Dams are built for electric power.

Water Care operates fourteen supply reservoirs,
five of them are located in the Waitakere Ranges.
Two of them are in Helensville, four of them are
in the Hunua Ranges and one in Papakura.

The dams supply 20% Auckland water.
